Firstly, Happy New Year to all. BigGrin Wishing us a healthy, happy 2011.

Can't believe I have logged in so early on New Years Day, no hangover for me this year just an annoying cold. Plus cant take anymore of my Husbands snoring! LOL

I'm being bit of a wimp but so many people around me have had flu or bad colds with sinus pain, so I want to protect myself, I did have the flu jab. At the mo, just have a cold but that horrible blocked up feeling and heavy head, but i just wondered what we can take if we are on MTX?

Another ailment, but Think I might have to go to the Drs in the week as still getting upset stomachs but its getting a bit embarrasing now, spent last night running to the loo at my mother and father in laws. My Stomach always has been sesitive but even more so now! Doesn't help that i get so nervous about things.

Now i have given myself the fear that eveytime i go to any social event or meetings in work, i worry that i might have to keep popping to the loo! We have a wedding to go to in June , yep now Im worrying about it happening then! Blushing

Sorry I have waffled on a bit, but would be great if anyone knows what cold remedies are safe for us

Lou

Happy new year Lou !

I don t take mtx. so sorry can t help you on these ones, I take leflunomide and have few " tummy issues " in the morning now and again but luckily just first thing, I m sure you will get some advice about all this and hopefully can be sorted out for you. Try not to worry about silly things, I think we all do it though to a degree - you ll not alone !

Take care Julia xx

Hi Lou

I've just come off MTX this week and have the cold from hell. One of those that isn't bad enough to be a flu but is too heavy to be a little cold. I'm on my 4th day of it and it's doing my head in!

Anyway, as far as I know I don't think there are any cold treatments that we can't take as long as you bear in mind not taking one with paracetomol in if you already take it as a pain killer etc. I've been using Sinex decongestant spray which is brilliant, strepsils, olbas oil, paracetomol and covonia cough mixture.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hello Lou

Sorry you feeling so rough. I am not on mtx but for blocked sinuses I take
otrivine spray, a clean tissue/hanky with olbus oil and paracetamol. However
if you the bad chesty cough you may need to go to the Docts.

Good luck hope you feel better soon.

Hi Lou, Sorry to hear you are feeling rough and are suffering the MTX tummy troubles. Are you on a stomach protector such as omeperazole?

As for the cold remedies, it depends what other meds and painkillers you are on. If you are just on MTX, a pharmacist could probably advise but you need to be careful as some cough and cold remedies contain paracetamol and anti-inflammatory drugs. If you are already taking painkillers containing paracetamol or are on any other meds you should really check with your GP. I know that someone mentioned to me that Sudafed (for sinus problems) is a no-no for some reason.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Dear Lou,
'Hope your cold goes away quickly.
I don't know about which cold remedies you can take,
but if I ever buy over the counter medicine I ask to speak to the
Pharmacist so they can check that they can be used with my
Hydroxychloroquine.
My tummy tends to play up if I am feeling nervous/stressed, etc.
It's no joke is it?
Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
from Fiona

Hi Lou,

Sorry you have the dreaded head cold, you can use Olbas oil, Covonia, vick etc but you cannot use anything which affects your chest when on the meds. I keep a list of things I have been advised as ok when on the meds. Steam Inhalation is as good as anything. Hope your better soon. Smile

Hello Lou,
I have been on MTX for approx 4yrs now. When i have coughs, colds or any ailments,i ask pharmacists they always tell me to see my G.P, i think it's cause they like to see if you have an infection or virus as they may need to put you on antibiotics, some of the remedies are not to be taken with mtx, make sure you have them checked out to be on the safe side, same with vitamins, i dont know if you have calcichew and folic acid, you need to make sure that you do not over dose as these are in a lot of multivitamins.

As for the other prob, well i seem to go from one extreme to another, and like you i have occasions when i worry,......will i make it on time lol.... certain foods effect me since i have been on mtx like pate, cream cheeses, brie etc, these are some off the foods have read are not so good to have, but i have a weakness for i am sure their was a list when i was first prescribed mtx, I now inject mtx it has not improved that prob but helped with the sicky feeling, but i still have the tummy probs.

Hope this has helped.

Anne-m xx

Happy new year!
